That's why Poppy cars are electric, hybrid, on CNG or with a low emission petrol engine (all of our kickscooters are electric). In order to further reduce our carbon emissions, we have decided to go one step further and contribute to global carbon neutrality. This major achievement is on its way with Tapio.

Tackling climate change is an everyday battle that might seem overwhelming. However, this ambitious goal becomes the most likely scenario once businesses work together in the same direction.
Once Poppy measured their greenhouse emissions and understood their actual impact as a whole, designing an action plan was just as straightforward. The next step was to set ambitious targets to reduce their footprint and connect with the right partners to make it possible. Now Poppy is taking part in cutting the world's emissions to zero.
Every positive action counts, no matter how little. However, climate change needs to be confronted collectively, as many other global challenges humanity has faced in the past. Embracing this approach, the opportunity to involve team members within their company to analyse its impact is priceless. The decision-makers will take climate action by being part of the impact team.

Human activities since the industrial revolution have led to the appearance of new sources of GHGs. Tapio’s all-in-one carbon management solution allows you to estimate the amount of industrial emissions (aka. anthropogenic greenhouse gases) emitted by the activities of your company or organisation.

The first step to compute a carbon report is to target and characterize the possible sources of GHGs emission from the organization. To do so, must be fixed beforehand by the reporting company.
Then, the breakdown of total carbon emissions by scope helps Poppy highlight the different hotspots that drive its carbon emissions. To address a problem, you need to be able to understand and measure it.
Poppy has decided to get involved in the fight against climate change by assessing its greenhouse gas emissions. Poppy provides a car-sharing service. The carbon report takes into account all the emissions on which these activities depend. From the fuel for the cars, electricity for the offices and, emissions related to the cars' repair and end of life. This explains the high final amount. By taking into account such a large scope, Poppy increases its reduction levers to more effectively reduce its impact on climate change.

Following the GHG Protocol, carbon emissions are divided into 3 main scopes, depending on their sources.
Scope 1 takes into account direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the organization, while in scope 2, we found only indirect emissions associated with the production of electricity, heat or steam. Scope 3, on the other hand, represents indirect emissions produced by the company’s activities that are not accounted for in Scope 2 but are related to their whole value chain, like in the case of business travel, or commuting.

Having an absolute number is complex and most of the time, meaningless. One good way to know where you stand and the way you are headed is to understand your carbon footprint in terms of intensity per employee allowing to track improvements over time even if the company grows.

After having measured their greenhouse gas emissions and analysed these results, Poppy understood their environmental impact as a whole. To transform hope into action, they needed a reduction plan. By setting ambitious targets to reduce their carbon footprint, Tapio will take part in limiting temperatures to 1.5°C.
Implementing sustainable solutions that will substantially reduce a company's carbon footprint is the first essential step; however, each climate journey is unique. To fulfil their climate ambitions, Tapio needed to compensate for their remaining carbon budget.
The Lacandon Forests for Life project reduces deforestation by controlling illegal timber extraction and assuring the legality of land use through sustainable forest management. The project also aims to address the cause of deforestation by improving the livelihoods of communities located within the National Park and surrounding areas. This includes the strengthening of governance through cooperatives, supporting sustainable economic livelihoods through technical workshops, and increasing environmental awareness through training.
This project has distributed over 5,500 efficient cookstoves to-date, to replace open fires. The cookstoves reflect traditional woodfire methods, but require 66% less firewood and reduce smoke emissions considerably, improving overall community health. By reducing emissions and slowing deforestation, the project reduces approximately 14,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.
In order to push their impact further than the company's scope, Poppy computed its employees emissions and decided to contribute to carbon capture projects up to their team's personal emissions.
