Bavet wants to work on developing an integrated and strategic approach regarding sustainability , in consultation with stakeholders. Sustainability is an increasingly important theme, especially for the hospitality sector. Dealing with climate change, changing eating patterns, health, pressure on mobility and nature, (food) waste, supply security in the chain, quality of life in cities are just a few of the many environmental and social challenges that Bavet faces in a rapidly changing society.
Tackling climate change is an everyday battle that might seem overwhelming. However, this ambitious goal becomes the most likely scenario once businesses work together in the same direction.
Once BAVET measured their greenhouse emissions and understood their actual impact as a whole, designing an action plan was just as straightforward. The next step was to set ambitious targets to reduce their footprint and connect with the right partners to make it possible. Now BAVET is taking part in cutting the world's emissions to zero.
Every positive action counts, no matter how little. However, climate change needs to be confronted collectively, as many other global challenges humanity has faced in the past. Embracing this approach, the opportunity to involve team members within their company to analyse its impact is priceless. The decision-makers will take climate action by being part of the impact team.

Human activities since the industrial revolution have led to the appearance of new sources of GHGs. Tapio’s all-in-one carbon management solution allows you to estimate the amount of industrial emissions (aka. anthropogenic greenhouse gases) emitted by the activities of your company or organisation.

The first step to compute a carbon report is to target and characterize the possible sources of GHGs emission from the organization. To do so, must be fixed beforehand by the reporting company.
Then, the breakdown of total carbon emissions by scope helps BAVET highlight the different hotspots that drive its carbon emissions. To address a problem, you need to be able to understand and measure it.
Bavet has decided to measure the environmental impact of 4 restaurants from 01-06-2021 to 31-05-2022. The following carbon report takes into account all the emissions that Bavet's Nationale Straat A'Pen restaurant depends on to perform its activities. Only the emissions related to the arrival of the customers are not taken into account. Bavet has voluntarily decided not to take into account the emissions related to the arrival of visitors in their restaurants, considering that it was complicated to have a lever of reduction on these emissions. As the HORECA sector was highly impacted by the Covid crisis, Bavet has decided to measure the impact of the restaurant for a specific period of time from 01-06-2021 to 31-05-2022.

Following the GHG Protocol, carbon emissions are divided into 3 main scopes, depending on their sources.
Scope 1 takes into account direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the organization, while in scope 2, we found only indirect emissions associated with the production of electricity, heat or steam. Scope 3, on the other hand, represents indirect emissions produced by the company’s activities that are not accounted for in Scope 2 but are related to their whole value chain, like in the case of business travel, or commuting.
